Did I miss something? When did America “lose” religion? On Easter, 2025, Trump opens the White House for an Easter Egg roll claiming, “We’re bringing religion back!” What religion became lost (aside from the ones overshadowed by Christianity)? When did America lose it?
Presently, roughly 50 different Christianity denominations exist in the United States brought and evolved from England when the colonizers landed, however religious indoctrination began as education. The colonizers, who were seeking religious freedom of their own, forced Christianity on Native Americans by using the bible to teach the indigenous group how to read. Over time, the Native Americans abandoned their religious beliefs for the ideology of one God through this forced assimilation. The grip of Christianity clutched over enslaved Africans as well. Plantation owner forced slaves to read the bible when teaching how to read and write. Black slaves adopted Christianity from the oppressor and still follow the “Word of God” today. American Christian Missionaries also boarded ships to venture out into the world, thrusting the “Word of God” on other indigenous people of color beyond the continental states’ borders. So, how did America “lose” a religion so deeply rooted in its history and dispersed throughout the world?
Perhaps it started with the holiday Starbucks cup of 2015. Starbucks created a holiday cup with a simple deep red color. No message or other designs. Joshua Feuerstein, an evangelical American, internet personality, and fervor Trump supporter, became upset and posted a video regarding the cup. The video went viral and caught the attention of Donald Trump, who was campaigning for his first term. Trump encouraged his supporters to boycott Starbucks over the cup. This added to the slow brewing culture war in America and an assault on Christianity to many conservatives.
Today, many state legislatures propose bills to put “The Bible” in public school, erasing the separation line between church and state. For Christian citizens, this may be great news. Having the religious faith you follow officially cementing its roots in the American education system, indoctrinating many young minds regardless of which religion their families follow at home. However, forcing a religion into public school falls into unconstitutional territory. It may lead to future lawsuits from parents who do not believe in a Christian “God.”
I believe the creation of our country is to avoid forced any religious ideology. The right to follow a faith which aligns to your preference. A country acceptable of all religious beliefs. The only religion on attack now are the ones not following the fictitious book of moral stories. If you believe in God almighty, you may do so. Simultaneously, you must be respectful of those who wish not to follow the word of the “good” lord. Americans who started their religious journey in Christianity may leave the program, especially if the written word clashes with their own beliefs. Yet, our current Regime wants to strip you the constitutional right to choose your faith.
There is no attack on Christianity. There never was. As a country with diverse cultures and beliefs, we only need to show respect for each other. If you want to say Merry Christmas, you may. I doubt anyone will harm you for it. However, if someone responds with “Happy Kwanzaa,” “Happy Holidays” or “Blessed be”, please return the respect issued to you. After all, isn’t that the “Christian” thing to do?
